The Worst Pests for Your Home

Pests not only damage your property, they also cause serious health problems for you and your loved ones once they invade your home. The most common type of pests that are found in homes are rodents, bugs and flying insects. Some of the worst pests for your home are:

Bedbugs

Bedbugs are one of the worst pests to infest your home. While they are not carriers of diseases and parasites, you really wouldn’t want them to bite you. They mostly live within the bed’s woodwork and they are one of the most difficult pests to get rid of .  Bedbug bites can result to lesions, scars and rashes. They can also lead to serious psychological effects such as sleep deprivation, stress, anxiety and depression.   Here is a closer look at bed bug damage.

Rats

Rats are one of the pests that carry some of the most dangerous diseases in the world including the potentially life threatening Weil’s disease. As if this wasn’t bad enough, they also like to gnaw through walls and on furniture. Their powerful teeth can literally bite anything and that is why they can reach water and food supplies easily and result in contamination. A rat’s urine or fecal matter can spread leptospirosis which affects both humans and animals leading to heart, kidney and liver problems. You don’t have to ingest something that has been contaminated by a rat in order for you to become infected because even inhaling their decaying waste can be infectious. Being one of the largest pests found in homes, rats can be very aggressive. They can bite and scratch resulting in infections like the rat-bite fever.

Fleas

Fleas are small, wingless parasitic insects with very powerful legs. Whereas they lack in size, they make up for this with their relentless sucking persistence. These little blood drinkers not only attack pets but also human beings. They will attach themselves on any living thing. A flea’s bite can cause an allergic reaction and in some people, it can lead to severe anaphylaxis. Ingesting them also leads to tapeworm infection.

Cockroaches

Roaches are one of the most disgusting pests to have in your home. Not only are they offensive to look at, they also pose health risks to humans. Cockroaches sometimes live in sewer-like environments and they usually come into homes to search for warmth and food. While they are scuttling on your kitchen countertop, cupboard and dining table, they leave behind parasites, bacteria and pathogens that can result to diseases. Their urine, droppings and decaying bodies all break down into airborne particles leading to allergic reactions.
